Great comment! Roland actually added the function you described (using an optional foot switch) on selected models in 2008. Originally found on the TDW-20 expansion board for the TD-20 module, then on the TD-20X module, and currently on the TD-30 Drum Sound Module, a foot switch can be assigned to STRAINER – OFF. Although not a physical switch or lever mounted to a pad, the foot switch allows hands-free control of the snares-off sound. To change back to “snares on”, you simply step on the foot switch a second time. The STRAINER – OFF function can also be assigned to an actual pad, where (for example) you could assign STRAINER – OFF to the rim of a pad and strike the rim to activate/deactivate the snares on/off function.

Someday when I’m out of school I plan on buying one of your kits.

I have one small issue though… With my acoustic kits, I enjoy having a throw-off switch on my snare for playing different songs. Although you have snare drum sounds without the snare wires, there’s really no efficient way of switching between the two sounds on the fly.

Maybe further down the road, you could create a pad with a switch to alternate between both snare sounds just as an acoustic snare throw-off switch. This is just an idea from a Roland enthusiast.
