Windows 8.1 & OSX Mavericks Drivers Now Available

October has been a significant month for OS releases. Windows 8.1 was officially released October 17th and Mavericks, the latest Mac OS, launched on the 22nd. Owners of Roland and BOSS products will be happy to know that our engineers have been hard at work to ensure our compatibility with the recent updates from Microsoft and Apple. Within a day of each release, Roland released updated drivers for many Roland and BOSS products. You can find the driver for your product by operating system from the links provided below. If you don’t yet see your product listed, don’t panic. We are adding new drivers all the time. Check the Roland US website for the latest information on your product and subscribe to the Support News feed if you want to be notified anytime Roland releases new drivers.

The RD-700GX uses the same RD Piano driver, and you can download the Mavericks (OSX 10.9) driver here:

I think it stinks, bought a SH201 and now no new drivers.
This will be the last Roland I buy. I can understand when they do it with gear older than 10 years but now???

I agree, this is ridiculous, especially after OV from Roland made is sound like it was very likely that they would update it for Mavericks. It makes the sh 201 worthless and unusable now.

Hello Luke,
The Fantom-X does not have an updated USB driver that supports Windows 8.1. We have been told by the engineers that they will not be releasing any newer drivers for this model, so you will need to use a separate MIDI or Audio / MIDI interface to connect the Fantom-X to Win 8.1 or any newer versions of Windows. There are several interfaces on the market – here are some links to 2 from Roland that would work well for this application:

The latest USB drivers available for the SH-201 support Windows 8 (not 8.1) and OSX 10.8 (not 10.9 Mavericks). We have been told that the engineers are not developing any more drivers for this model, so you will need to use an external MIDI or Audio/MIDI interface to connect the SH-201 to a PC with the latest operating system…

Please update the windows 8.1 drivers for Roland SH-201. I am unable to use it with my computer for a long time. Also, Have you stopped supporting Boss GS-10 drivers for upcoming operating systems? Some of these older devices are good to use. But without updated drivers, they cannot be used to their full potential.

Thanks for your email. We are still seeing updated drivers being released from the engineers in Japan, so it is possible we will see more in the future still. The SH-201 is the more recent piece, so this seems like a possibility, but the GS-10 has not had any updated drivers for several years, so we do not expect to see any further development or updated drivers for this model.

At this point, it appears that Roland Japan will not be releasing any new USB drivers to support the Fantom-X series. Here are links to the official listings for both Mac OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) and Windows 8.1:

You can see on both lists that the Fantom-X series is currently not planned for compatibility.
If you need to connect your Fantom-X to a computer with either of these newer operating systems, you will need to use a separate MIDI or Audio/MIDI interface that does have newer drivers available.

My order of the BR 800 is coming, but I only have the windows RT 8.1 which can only install apps from store. Is there any possibility of creating an app for those RT user?

Hi. We understand how an install app would be useful for you. However, there is not a BR-800 driver install app designed for Windows RT unfortunately. We have sent a request to our corporate Roland/ BOSS headquarters in Japan. At this time, they have not informed us regarding whether or not they plan to design an install app for Windows RT. We apologize for any inconvenience.
