"I founded Kopperhead as an original music house with
a recording studio in 1976. Specializing in analog synthesis wasn't an easy sell
in Ohio then, yet we grew - and opened our John Storyk designed studio in 1980.
The next year I purchased a Synclavier Digital Music System and later became
a Beta Test Site. Our work covered jingles, audio visuals, and a very diverse
range of recording artists. Clients included Phillips, General Tire, the Cleveland
Browns, the Michael Stanley Band, the O'Jays, and Lavert."
"As
recording technology slowly began to catch up to Synclavier quality and efficiency,
Kopperhead also changed to more of a project based orientation. Currently we
specialize in solo and ensemble artist productions which usually included arranging,
sequencing, recording, mixing, and mastering. We have been recording exclusively
with Roland VS recorders since early 1998 and are still amazed by the quality
and feature price/performance ratio. We mix and master many projects for a client
in the child and educational fields. These are recorded on ADATs, in Digital
Performer, and on Mackie HDRs in Nashville and other locations, and are then
transferred into our VS-2480 for mixing and mastering. The VS feature set enables
efficient assembly and coordination of these full scale projects, with some being
102 songs on three CDs."

"Most of our recording clients have fixed, smaller budgets
so recording must be as efficient as possible. We nearly always track vocals
using analog compression and soft gating. On average this would be at 4:1 with
a max reduction of 8 to 12db. 75% of our vocals are recorded with Neuman
U-87s.
Every new song file in the VS is created from a template project that includes
scenes for a multitude of different projects, set ups, and functions." |

"My favorite "feature" of the VS-2480 is probably the one
most overlooked;
the fact that entire recording productions from start to finish can be created
accurately and efficiently entirely within the VS domain. In a multifaceted market
like ours, we often change between tracking, sweetening, mixing, assembly, mastering
and backup on a regular basis. This simply wouldn't be economically possible
with other systems.
My second favorite "feature" of the VS-2480 is Roland
support and the continuing growth and evolution of the VS series. Without this,
any VS unit would have a short and predictable life span. With it, these systems
are moneymakers for a years - not months. Thank you Roland!" |
