SuperNATURAL® Piano

The DP-990RF is enhanced with Roland’s breakthrough SuperNATURAL Piano technology. Three key elements are dramatically improved: velocity response, note decay, and key-range behavior. Where previous sample-based technology created coarse “stair-step” gaps in velocity and key range, and unnatural looping in note decay, SuperNATURAL bridges the gaps with perfectly smooth and natural three-dimensional sound and response.

Functional Style

The DP-990RF impresses with its sleek, modern-furniture-like design, featuring a solid, soft-close safety lid that can be used as a music rest when opened and as a flat surface when closed. For the utmost in elegance, the high-gloss, mirror-like Polished Ebony finish of the DP-990RF beautifully reflects your fingers, while the black control panel adds an extra touch of class.

Authentic Grand-Piano Feel

The DP-990RF model features a PHA II keyboard with Escapement plus Ivory-Feel keys. The keyboard yields a heavier touch in the lower range and lighter touch in the upper, providing lighter resistance for pianissimo passages and stronger resistance for fortissimo. The escapement architecture of the DP keys reproduces the characteristic “click feel” of a grand piano for the ultimate in realistic performance and expression, while the DP-990RF’s Ivory-Feel key material provides a moisture-absorbent, secure touch.

USB Enhanced

USB compatibility opens a world of exciting add-ons and extra functionality to the DP-990RF. Play along with audio files or Standard MIDI files directly from a USB key, or layer pre-recorded music from a commercially available audio CD with your performance by connecting a USB CD drive (Roland CD-01A, optional). Your audience won’t believe how much music is coming from a single instrument.

New Twin-Piano Mode

The “Twin Piano” function allows you to split the keyboard left and right into two regions, each with its own middle “C” and damper pedal. Two players wearing headphones can then play completely independently without hearing one another (Individual Twin-Piano), a powerful application for “partner” lessons or piano labs.
