V-STUDIO 20: VS-20 Editor reports "Unable to read/write data"

When the VS-20 hardware is connected to a different USB port on your PC, the VS-20 Editor software may prompt an "Unable to read/write data" message. The following procedure will restore communication between the VS-20 hardware and the VS-20 Editor software.

  1. Be sure that you have completely connected the USB cable to both the VS-20 hardware and a USB port on your PC. If the cable was not completely connected, close and then reopen the VS-20 Editor software. If the message continues to appear, it is possible that the VS-20 Effect Control port has been lost.

  2. In the VS-20 Editor software, click on SETUP and then select “Set Up MIDI Devices…”

  3. The following dialogue will appear. Note that the currently selected “ports” are labeled “(Unconnected)”.

  4. Select the “VS-20 Effect Control” that is not labeled “(Unconnected)” for both the "Input" and "Output" drop down menus.
    Note: Do not select “VS-20 DAW Control” for either "Input" or "Output".

  5. Click “OK” to close the dialogue box.

  6. Press any button on the VS-20 Hardware to re-establish connection between the VS-20 Hardware and the VS-20 Editor software. When connection is restored, "MIDI reconnected" will appear.
