V-STUDIO 100, VS-100: Configuring the VS-100 for Ableton Live

The following article will guide you through setting up the VS-100 to be used with Ableton Live software. 

Note: The V-STUDIO 100 Driver must be installed prior to following the setup instructions below. If you have not installed the driver, follow the instructions in the “V-STUDIO 100 Software and Driver Installation” article found in our knowledge base by clicking here.

Ableton Live (Mac OS X)
Audio I/O Setup:
  1. Select Live in the menu bar and then select Preferences.
  2. Select the Audio tab on the left of the Preferences window.
  3. Assign both your Audio Input Device and Audio Output Device to "VS-100 44.1kHz (10 in, 6 out)".
    Note: the sample rate displayed will change depending on the sample rate settings of the VS-100.
  4. Click on the Input Config button next to Channel Configuration.
  5. Click on the inputs you would like to make available to Live’s tracks and then click OK.
  6. Click on the Output Config button next to Channel Configuration.
  7. Click on the outputs you would like to make available to Live’s tracks and then click OK.
  8. Close the Preferences window.
Control Surface Setup:
  1. Select Live in the menu bar and then select Preferences..
  2. Select the MIDI/SYNC tab on the left of the Preferences window.
  3. In the Control Surface column, select “MackieControl” from the drop down list.
  4. Assign the Input and Output in the same row as “MackieControl” to “VS-100 (Control)”.
  5. Close the Preferences window.

Ableton Live (Windows)
Audio I/O Setup:
  1. Select Live in the menu bar and then select Preferences.
  2. Select the Audio tab on the left of the Preferences window.
  3. Assign your Driver Type to “ASIO” for optimal performance.
    Note: the VS-100 is also compatible with the MME/DirectX driver option but will typically have better performance using the ASIO drivers.
  4. Assign your Audio Device to “VS-100”.
  5. Click on the Input Config button next to Channel Configuration.
  6. Click on the inputs you would like to make available to Live’s tracks and then click OK.
  7. Click on the Output Config button next to Channel Configuration.
  8. Click on the outputs you would like to make available to Live’s tracks and then click OK.
  9. Close the Preferences window.
Control Surface Setup:
  1. From the Options menu, select Preferences.
  2. Select the MIDI/SYNC tab on the left of the Preferences window.
  3. In the Control Surface column, select “MackieControl” from the drop down list.
  4. Assign the Input and Output in the same row as “MackieControl” to “VS-100 (Control)”.
  5. Close the Preferences window.
