The GR-55 has the ability to assign or TARGET various parameters such as ON/OFF switches for the four different tones, effects levels, effect on/off, and many more. These targeted parameters can be controlled by what is called a SOURCE. A SOURCE is (using the GR-55 as an example) a button, foot switch or pedal on the GR-55, or a connected external pedal and/or midi controller that has been connected for additional control and functionality.

To access the ASSIGN page begin by pushing the [EDIT] button.

If you look at the top of the GR-55 screen you will see four pages: TONE, EFFECT, MASTER, SYSTEM.

The PAGE [◄ ►] buttons allow you to access and bring up and move between the different pages.

Use the PAGE [◄ ►] buttons to bring up the MASTER page (looks more like a tab).

Once you are on a PAGE, use the [DIAL KNOB] and DIAL [▼▲◄ ►] to navigate through a page.

On the MASTER page use the DIAL [▼▲◄ ►] buttons to go to and highlight the ASSIGN icon and push [ENTER].

On the ASSIGN page at the top you will see eight different pages numbered 1-8. Each page is a different ASSIGN, and you have a total of eight per patch. By default the #1 ASSIGN is opened.

For this example we will start with ASSIGN 1, and we will use the CTL pedal to turn ON and OFF the delay effect.

On each of the ASSIGN pages (all are the same with identical menus) is a menu of variations that you can use when creating an ASSIGN.

Use the DIAL [▼▲] to move through the different lines and spin the [DIAL] knob to change through the various parameters once you are on a line.

Highlight the SWITCH line and turn the [DIAL KNOB] to ON. This activates and arms the ASSIGN.

Use the DIAL [▼▲] to move down to the TARGET line. TARGET is the specific parameter that you want to control.

Spin the [DIAL] knob to change through the various parameters until TARGET shows DELAY TYPE SWITCH. This is the ON/OFF switch for the delay effect.

Use the DIAL [▼▲] to move down to the TARGET MIN line. By default it should be in the OFF position, if not, spin the [DIAL] knob to change the line to OFF

Use the DIAL [▼▲] to move down to the TARGETMAXline. By default it should be in the ON position, if not, spin the [DIAL] knob to change the line to ON

TARGET MIN/MAX specifies the range of change for the specified TARGET parameter. Depending on the TARGET you chose on the TARGET line, you will see different ranges displayed between the MIN/MAX. Some are as simple as OFF and ON others can be millisecond variation from 5ms-3400ms still others could have a range level from 0-100. These variables are dependent on the TARGET.

Use the DIAL [▼▲] to move down to the SOURCE line. SOURCE is the button, foot switch, pedal, controller or midi CC# that you want to assign to control the parameter you picked on the TARGET line. Remember for our example we are choosing the CTL pedal as our SOURCE and it is controlling the ON/OFF parameter or switch, of the delay.

By default theCTLis already picked, but if it is not spin the [DIAL] knob to the left until you seeCTL.

Use the DIAL [▼▲] to move down to the SOURCE MODE line and spin the [DIAL] knob so that the line shows SOURCE MODE TOGGLE. There are two choices here:

TOGGLE means that when you push/step on the switch it will activate and stay activated until you turn it back off by pushing the pedal again. Thus “toggling” between activated and deactivated.

MOMENTARY means that when you push/step on the switch it will activate and stay activated as long as you keep your foot pushed down on the pedal. As soon as you take your foot off it deactivates the switch. Thus only engaging the pedal for the “moment” your foot is holding the pedal down.

The last two lines are ACT RANGE O/ACT RANGE HI and are generally kept at the default range of 0 and 127. An example of wanting to adjust these would be if the throw of the expression pedal physically is too long for you want to shorten the effect range between heel down and toe down, you could modify that here.

Push the [EXIT] button twice to get back to the main screen.

If you want to check your work push [EDIT].

Use the PAGE [◄ ►] buttons to bring up the EFFECT page.

Look at the DELAY line and at the square ON/OFF icon button to the left.

Push the CTL pedal and you should see the DELAY square ON/OFF icon button turn off and on.

Push [EXIT] to finish.
