Celebrate 808 Day on August 8th.<\/p><\/div>\n

On August 8th (8\/08), the global music community will\u00a0come together to honor the iconic\u00a0Roland TR-808 drum machine, an\u00a0instrument that’s inspired countless artists and changed the face of contemporary music. The events will take place on what\u2019s been dubbed \u201c808 Day,” and festivities can be tracked on social media with the hashtag #808day.<\/p>\n

808 Day: Selected Worldwide Events<\/h2>\n

Low End Theory is an influential, world-renowned Los Angeles\u00a0nightclub that pushes the boundaries of experimental music. In celebration of 808 Day, they will be hosting\u00a0the Low End Theory Festival 2015<\/a>, an annual event now in its second year. It\u2019ll feature live music\u00a0and\u00a0production workshops\u00a0with\u00a0beat-making techniques and Roland synth demos, plus Roland-sponsored gear and T-shirt giveaways and surprises throughout the day.<\/p>\n

Cutting-edge electronic\u00a0music\u00a0production and DJ school Dubspot<\/a> is celebrating 808 Day on their New York and L.A. campuses. In honor\u00a0of the TR that started it all,\u00a0they\u2019re inviting all musicians to participate in beat production workshops\u00a0and\u00a0hands-on demos,\u00a0and to enjoy\u00a0artist performances, discounts on Roland TR-8s, special gear giveaways, and more!<\/p>\n

Kerry Brown, a multi-instrumentalist, artist manager, record producer, engineer, composer, and founding member of L.A.\u2019s Six01 artist collective, is sponsoring “8.08!<\/a>” The event will take place at the Six01 Studio Sound Lab in Burbank, California, and will feature live musical performances\u00a0from David J (Bauhaus, Love and Rockets), Bon Harris (Nitzer Ebb), Brian Liesegang (Nine Inch Nails, Filter), and Kerry Brown (Catherine), as well as an art exhibition by\u00a0CANTSTOPGOODBOY and Serj Tankian (System of a Down). This event will be streaming live at starryrecords.net\/808day<\/a> starting at 8 p.m. PST.<\/p>\n

The 8.08! event will take place at Six01 Studio Sound Lab in Burbank, CA.<\/p><\/div>\n

In the UK, the film\u00a0808<\/a><\/em>\u00a0premieres on Saturday evening, 8\/8\/15, at the British Film Institute<\/a>\u00a0(BFI) in London. The screening will begin at 8:08 p.m. BST at the BFI Southbank<\/a> cinema venue as part of the Sonic Cinema<\/a> series. At\u00a0this event, noted\u00a0dance\u00a0musicians\u00a0A Guy Called Gerald<\/a> and Graham Massey<\/a> will be demonstrating\u00a0how to program beats on the original TR-808 and\u00a0the new AIRA\u00a0TR-8<\/a>\u00a0from 7-8 p.m.\u00a0in the main ticket hall at BFI. They’ll also be performing\u00a0in the bar area for free starting about\u00a011 p.m.<\/p>\n

808<\/em>: The Movie<\/h2>\n

Independent film producers have recently announced\u00a0808<\/em><\/a>, an engaging documentary film that shares the enormous influence the TR-808 has had on music and pop culture since the 1980s. The film is currently being screened globally and is expected for general release in the\u00a0fall. A diverse lineup of artists and producers appear, including Afrika Bambaataa, Fatboy Slim, Rick Rubin, Phil Collins, Questlove, David Guetta, and many others.<\/p>\n
