It features a single analog oscillator with two waveforms (saw or square) and has a simple VCF filter with resonance, cut-off, and envelope controls. There are also knobs to adjust tuning, envelope decay, tempo and accent amount. It has helped develop and stylize many forms of electronic dance genres such as house, techno, trance and of course acid. An\u00a0<a title=\"Electronic Musician website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.emusician.com\/index\" target=\"_blank\">Electronic Musician\u00a0<\/a>article on\u00a0<a title=\"Tadao Kikumoto article\" href=\"http:\/\/www.emusician.com\/news\/0766\/tadao-kikumoto\/141255\" target=\"_blank\">Tadao Kikumoto<\/a>\u00a0published in January 2003 describes how the TB-303 came to the attention of the dance world:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>One trio of friends collectively identified as Phuture (Spanky, Herbert J and DJ Pierre) stumbled upon the 303 circa 1985 and effectively changed the course of dance music by pioneering a searing, intense new sound: acid. \u201cI went over to [Spanky&#8217;s] house, and he had a track playing with this crazy sound on it,\u201d Pierre recalls. \u201cHe didn&#8217;t exactly know how to work it, but he liked the sound it was putting out. I agreed and proceeded to mess around with the knobs and stuff. We made a tape of it that day and got it right away to Ron Hardy.\u201d That tape, dubbed\u00a0<em>Acid Trax<\/em>, ignited a spark that set the burgeoning house community alight. Hardy adopted the sound, and soon artists such as 808 State, Humanoid (who later formed FSOL) and Hard-floor began churning out acid tracks at an alarming rate.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a title=\"Vintage Synth Explorer TB-303 \" href=\"http:\/\/www.vintagesynth.com\/roland\/303.php\" target=\"_blank\">Vintage Synth Explorer<\/a>\u00a0acknowledges the TB-303 as &#8220;THE sound of acid and techno house music!&#8221; and &#8220;one of the most sought after vintage synths ever!&#8221;.
