Chicago Festivalgoers Explore the Latest Roland and BOSS Music Gear

The Roland/BOSS spring gear tour recently landed in Chicago, where we teamed up with CIMMfest (the Chicago International Music & Movies Festival), a popular annual event that just celebrated its eighth year. During CIMMcon, the festival’s regional industry conference, we hosted an interactive musical instrument display within Galerie F, Chicago’s first street art and gig poster gallery. Located at the heart of the festival in Chicago’s historic Logan Square neighborhood, our display offered visitors a unique, hands-on opportunity to make music and interact with the latest Roland and BOSS instruments.

A Fun Time for All at Roland’s Backstage Artist Lounge

ACM_Marquee1 Roland and BOSS had a blast at our backstage artist lounge and gear “petting zoo” at the Academy of Country Music’s 4th Annual ACM Party for a Cause Festival. The three-day, two-stage charitable event in Las Vegas attracted nearly 50,000 music fans who enjoyed more than 30 acts from country music’s top names. This year, the festival took place April 1-3 at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds, and featured many top-tier acts plus full headline sets from Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, and Kenny Chesney. The weekend led up to the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards, which included Sam Hunt singing his hit “Make You Miss Me” while playing a custom-prepared white Roland V-Piano Grand.

Music Educators Discover the Benefits of Roland’s Leading Piano Technologies

Roland attended the recent 2016 MTNA (Music Teacher’s National Association) National Conference in San Antonio, Texas, where we displayed the LX-17, LX-7, and FP-30 Digital Pianos, as well as the C-30 Digital Harpsichord. These Roland piano models—the world’s first pianos equipped with Bluetooth technology—were also showcased at the Faber Piano Adventures booth, as led by influential piano educator Randall Faber.

Roland is pleased to announce that our ongoing educational partnership with the GRAMMY Museum continues to evolve and grow. Since 2009, Roland LIVE has been a popular exhibit at the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles, and it’s been recently refreshed with the latest gear and new interactive displays. Just last month, the GRAMMY Museum opened a new location in the heart of blues country—Cleveland, Mississippi—and Roland LIVE can be found there as well. In addition, the museum invited us to install a new Roland LIVE exhibit at the GRAMMY Museum Gallery, which is part of the Musicians Hall of Fame in downtown Nashville.

Roland has recently introduced TR-REC, a unique new music game app available as a free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play. TR-REC is a pattern sequencing game that prompts you to complete real-time beats for a continuously running electronic music score. You accomplish this by using the intuitive “TR-REC” pattern programming interface and sounds found in the legendary Roland TR-808 drum machine and its modern incarnation, the TR-8. Fun and addictive, TR-REC is sure to appeal to all Roland drum machine fans and provide an enjoyable challenge for anyone who likes to play games on their smartphone or tablet.

Lang Lang Takes Stage with 50 Roland Pianos and 100 Young Musicians

One hundred piano students from California’s Bay Area took to the stage at Sonoma State University’s Weill Hall in October to perform a program entitled, “101 Pianists.” Each student was paired with another student on one of 50 Roland RP401R digital pianos onstage, and together, while accompanied by world-renowned classical pianist Lang Lang, they performed two-handed arrangements of Schubert’s Marche Militaire, No. 1 in D major and Brahms’ Hungarian Dance, No 5. in F-sharp minor. At Roland Corporation U.S. headquarters in Los Angeles, we recently put together a special surprise homecoming event for a member of our Sales Administration team. Our own Mary Ann Sherman was treated to a memorable day when her daughter, U.S. Army Specialist Kim Sherman, arrived home from duty. Kim was stationed in Hawaii and completed her service a few months early. As far as her mother knew, she was not due home until later this year, so we organized a surprise homecoming celebration. Please enjoy some photos from this special event as we recognize Kim for her service.
